The great leap of virtual reality
You won't be able to escape from it. The metaverse is coming, and it will change everything we know about work and play.
The metaverse is going to provide great opportunities for companies, ranging from increasing their social presence, to office work, payments, healthcare, buying and selling products, etc.
Multinational giants such as Facebook (which has already changed its name to Meta), Zara, Epic Games or Microsoft are some of the examples of companies that have joined this trend and that will be the great promoters of this new universe. There is still work to be done to see 100% of what will be achieved, but we must not lose sight of it.
The Metaverse is a virtual world to which we will connect through a series of devices that will make us believe that we are really inside it, interacting with all its elements. It will be like teleporting to a completely new world through virtual reality glasses and other accessories that will allow us to interact with it.

Virtual worlds are nothing new, and there are a huge number of them, especially in the video game industry. You create a character or avatar, and enter that world to live adventures through your computer. However, the metaverse is not intended to be a fantasy world, but rather a kind of alternate reality in which we can do the same things we do today outside the home, but without leaving it.
So far we haven't seen what this means in practice; however, there are already companies working on prototypes showing some examples of how it might work. For example, imagine having an immersive experience where you go to buy clothes or furniture in your own home without having to leave it; or play with friends who are also online from home; or even watch movies with colleagues from your office without having to go anywhere
Imagine a world where you can walk through the streets of a city and chat with avatars of other people, who come out to open stores and offer to try on and buy virtual clothes, a virtual car or a virtual apartment.
Or imagine being able to share a virtual office by connecting from home, without having to worry about preparing for the meeting. It doesn't matter if you're in pajamas or disheveled. What others will see is your avatar, your virtual person.
Or maybe you would like to spend some time in this new world without having to spend any money. That is also possible. All you need is an Internet connection and a pair of headphones.
The future is here!
We are still a long way from being able to all connect to a metaverse in which to interact
We have to develop this virtual universe, and we also have to develop the technology that allows us to connect to it. We also have to make this technology, where it exists, affordable for everyone.
That said, in the coming years we will see how new devices are launched that aim to connect us with this new virtual reality. The idea is that in the future they will be very complete and affordable, but until that is real, they may still not allow great interactions and will be quite expensive.
